A Message from the Reverend Burton Ott
Dear FUMC family,

Bishop Holston has extended the no “in person” worship recommendation for all the United Methodist churches in South Carolina until the end of April. This includes meetings, events, and gatherings.

We will continue on as we have the past 2 Sundays by broadcasting our worship service on Facebook. It is a great thing that we can praise and worship Jesus at the same time. Though we may be physically separated, we are still the body of Christ called First United Methodist. Continue to pray for the body.

We are hoping and praying that you stay connected with us. We are reaching out to you with email, the one call system, Facebook, and our website (where sermons are posted for non Facebook folks), bulletins and the monthly calendar. God has blessed us with many ways to grow our ability to reach people with His Word, even as we stay at home! I recently learned of another Technological blessing that I believe God will use for His Glory.  Please download the “” app . This app allows up to 100  users to join in a group video conversation! And it’s free for 40 minutes! Let God into your imagination and picture our Sunday school classes with 100 people participating!! I will be starting a weekly Easter Bible study on the post resurrection appearances of Jesus before His ascension. I will let you know all the details during Holy Week. Let’s start praying right now that God will lead so many of us to this study of His Word that we will have to do it twice a week! In Jesus’ name!

Below this letter is a message from our District Superintendent, Rev. Tim Rogers, which was sent to all the pastors in the Marion District. Please pass this on if you think it will help anyone.

May the Lord bless you and keep you in His loving hands,

The recently passed legislations called the CARES Act – the $2 Trillion federal stimulus package – includes provisions that provide benefits for churches.

I encourage you to read this article:

I’m not a tax or legal expert, but I strongly encourage your leadership to read up on this program. If your church is facing a financial strain right now, this may help you pay your employees until we get past this coronavirus challenge. And remember that this is not just designed to help churches.  It is designed to help small businesses.  You may well have members of your church or community who may be helped by the program.  Encourage them to look into this to see if it might be helpful to them also.

I hope that this may prove to be useful as we all navigate these days.
